Working days calculator
Count business days between dates—or add and subtract workdays—with the exact weekend and holiday rules that apply to you.
| Month | Working | Weekend | Holidays |

Planning note: This calculator follows the weekend, holiday and boundary rules you enter. It does not determine legal deadlines, banking settlement dates, court days, employment entitlements or public holidays for a jurisdiction. Confirm critical dates with the responsible organisation.
What is a working days calculator?
A working days calculator counts only the weekdays your schedule treats as active. It can remove weekends and specified holidays from a date range, or move forward and backward by a chosen number of eligible workdays. Because weekend patterns and public holidays vary, this calculator makes every exclusion visible and editable.
How working days are calculated
The tool creates each calendar date in the range, then applies your include-start and include-end settings.
Any date whose weekday is marked non-working is excluded before holidays are checked.
A listed holiday is excluded only when it would otherwise be a working day, preventing double-counting.
working days = considered calendar days − weekends − weekday holidaysWorking-day calculation examples
With both dates included and Saturday–Sunday excluded, the result is 5 working days.
The inclusive range has 5 weekdays. If Wednesday is entered as a holiday, the result is 4 working days.
With a Saturday–Sunday weekend and the starting date not counted, the result is the following Monday.
Select Friday and Saturday as non-working; Sunday is then treated as an ordinary working day.
Inclusive and exclusive date counting
Many date disagreements come from whether the boundary dates count. This calculator uses separate controls so your assumption is recorded instead of hidden.
| Setting | Meaning | Same working date |
|---|---|---|
| Include start and end | Both boundary dates can count. | 1 |
| Exclude start, include end | Counting begins after the start date. | 0 |
| Include start, exclude end | The deadline boundary itself is omitted. | 0 |
| Exclude start and end | Only dates strictly between the boundaries count. | 0 |
Why holidays are entered manually
There is no single universal list of non-working holidays. Dates can differ by country, state, province, municipality, industry, employer and year. Substitute or observed holidays may also move when an event falls on a weekend. Manual entry keeps the result aligned with the specific calendar you are planning against.
- Use ISO dates. Enter holidays as YYYY-MM-DD to avoid day/month ambiguity.
- Include local closures. Add regional observances, shutdowns and company closure days when relevant.
- Check observed dates. A holiday may be officially observed on a different weekday.
- Verify regulated deadlines. Court, tax, banking and contractual calendars can define business days differently.
When a business days calculator helps

Model due dates defined as a number of business days, then verify the governing terms.
Estimate how many scheduled workdays fall inside a proposed absence.
Estimate working-day windows using the carrier or organisation’s operating calendar.
Working days calculator FAQs
How do I calculate working days between two dates?
Choose the start and end dates, decide whether each boundary counts, select the non-working weekdays and enter applicable holidays. The calculator removes weekend dates and holidays from the considered calendar dates.
Are the start and end dates included?
They are included by default in count mode. Separate controls let you exclude either boundary, making the counting convention explicit.
Does the calculator include public holidays automatically?
No. Public holidays vary by location, year and organisation. Enter the exact YYYY-MM-DD dates that apply to your calculation.
What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?
The date is counted once as a weekend exclusion. It is not also counted as a weekday holiday, so excluded days are not double-counted.
Can I use a Friday and Saturday weekend?
Yes. Clear Saturday or Sunday as needed and select Friday and Saturday. Any combination of weekdays can be marked as non-working.
Can I calculate working days without weekends?
Yes. Clear every non-working weekday. The tool will then exclude only the custom holidays you enter.
How does adding working days treat the starting date?
The starting date is not counted by default, so adding one workday moves to the next eligible date. Select the option to count the starting date when it is itself a working day.
What happens when I add zero working days?
The result remains the starting date. No calendar days are moved or excluded.
Is a working day the same as a business day?
The terms are often used similarly, but a contract, regulator, court, bank or employer may define them differently. Use the applicable written definition for important deadlines.
Does the calculation have daylight-saving time errors?
The date arithmetic uses calendar dates rather than local 24-hour increments, helping avoid one-hour daylight-saving changes affecting the day count.
Can I use the result for a legal deadline?
Use it only as a planning aid. Legal and regulatory rules can define included days, holidays, filing cut-offs and extensions differently. Confirm the date with the responsible authority or adviser.
Is my date information stored?
No. The calculation runs in the browser and the plugin does not transmit or store the dates entered in the tool.
